Alex McMurray

Hi! I'm an active writer, AI enthusiast, musician, and visual artist. I'm also a sound designer, gamer, philosopher, and the list goes on. In short, I’m an efficient worker, creative writer, and artsy composer with a love for people and a desire to help myself and others self-actualize and grow.

I used to write for Student Life Network and I've also previously written a short book, many blog posts, and my own social media copy.

I love to communicate! Let me help you to get your message across.

About this Portfolio

As you can probably tell, I'm a passionate writer of both creative and professional content. I've organized this portfolio into two types of content: Informative and Emotional/Editorial. I'm confident that I have significant strengths to display in both of those types of writings (and more!) and therefore that I could write almost anything for you.

Check them out in the menu, upper left! I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy.

If you want to know more about me, check out my LinkedIn profile. Or perhaps you would like to listen to my music? I'm creating a very multidisciplinary space for myself so I have a lot to offer. Feel free to peruse my about.me page and any of the social media linked there. Have fun!

Axie Nation On Fire: Burning Down or Phoenix Rising?

Axie Nation On Fire: Burning Down or Phoenix Rising? Axie Infinity is something that you’ve probably heard of, whether or not you’re deep into crypto. It’s made such a name for itself in the gaming and crypto industries in such a short time that you must have at least seen articles about it. However, it’s more than just a game or a crypto coin, it’s a burgeoning digital nation state of people from various countries, ethnicities and economic statuses. The problem, though, is that this new nation

NFTs are Friends, Not Foes

NFTs Aren’t as Bad as You Think: Give me a chance to convince you… This article is meant for those who are anti-NFT, or, those who are pro-NFT but want to try to convince a friend or family member who hates the things to maybe think again. Before I begin the convincing, let me start with some honest truth that many NFT bros won’t give you: NFTs aren’t perfect. I’ve seen many arguments against NFTs, and while I think a lot of them are flawed at best, there’s some truth I can’t ignore. For examp

Things Always Take More Time than you Think They Will

Things always take longer than you think they will. This phenomenon is called Hofstadter’s Law. It states that things take longer than you think they will, even if you think they're going to take longer than you think they will. In fact, even if you're aware that things are going to take longer than you think they will and even longer than that, they'll probably still take longer!

How To Turn Kijiji Into A Side Hustle

I need money. No, I’m not begging you personally for a donation, I’m just stating a fact. I need money to pay rent, internet, food, gas, insurance, and all that other nonsense. I figure chances are pretty high that you need money, too. Going to school is expensive. Being alive is pretty costly, especially in big cities. But hey—I have good news also: if you live in a large metropolitan area, there is a neat way to make some extra money that you might not have considered...

“The Future” is Now

Black Mirror… the name of the show is so apt. It holds up a mirror to society that isn’t afraid to show our dark side. In my opinion, all truly worthwhile science fiction accomplishes one thing amongst various mixes of other goals: it displays a current issue in a slightly exaggerated way that will shock people firstly as a concept in and of itself and then secondly as they realize that the society they live in is only a little different than that exaggerated example. This week’s blog prompt has asked us to pick a specific episode of Black Mirror to analyze, and I have chosen “15 Million Merits” because of the raw power of Bing’s speech near the end of the episode which completely blew me away when I first watched it. I have chosen to argue that...

If Buzzfeed is “The Future of Media”, I Need to Hop in The DeLorean.

The prompt for this week asks me to agree or disagree with the idea that Buzzfeed is “the future of media”, but I find myself taking two conflicting views. The first view is one of hope, and if I am to be hopeful about the future, then I cannot accept the idea that something as pitifully pithy as Buzzfeed is a reflection of what is to come. Let us look at the current Buzzfeed headlines as I write this, shall we? On Tuesday, January 31st of 2017 at 1:42pm, the headline piece of media is...
